At Dream Day Cakes®, we specialize in creating unique, custom fondant specialty cakes. Recently, a creative and fun couple visited our bakery with a great idea for their wedding cake. On their recent trip to Greece, while visiting the Epidaurus theatre, our groom decided that this ancient theatre would be the perfect place to ask our beautiful bride for her hand in marriage.
Of course, she said yes.
The Epidaurus theatre was designed by Polykleitos the Younger in the 4th century BC— this is one ancient theater. The theatre might best be knows for its amazing acoustics. People say that the spoken work can be heard perfectly from any of it’s 15,000 seats (without amplification). The secret to this phenomenon are the rows of limestone seats which actually filter out low-frequency sounds, such as background crowd noise, and amplify high-frequency sounds from its stage.
Our couple wanted to share this special theatre with their wedding guests. They decided that instead of flying their guests to Greece, they would do the next best thing— bring the theatre to Gainesville, Florida.
The reception, held at the Kanapaha Gardens in Gainesville, Florida, provided the perfect setting for this young couple.
The concept: Recreate the look and feel of the Epidaurus Theatre, complete with edible bride and groom.
From the limestone theatre to the tree-covered mountain scenery, we tried to bring this ancient theatre to Gainesville, Florida.
From the trees to the mountains, the bride and groom to the stage, this cake was designed to be eaten. All of the decorations were completely edible.
